This year, it's a delight to hear that mangoes are in abundance! However, mangoes are considered a luxury, so it's not often that I get to enjoy them myself. They are mainly reserved for gift-giving.
Moreover, the prices can vary significantly. The high-end ones can cost around 3,000 yen each. If there are slight blemishes or they don't look perfect, the prices may drop, and for medium-sized ones, it might be around 1,000 yen per fruit.
But... I thought to myself, "I really want to indulge in mangoes at least once a year!" So, I took the plunge and bought some from a nearby pineapple and mango stand.
The shop owner told me that mangoes will be finished in the next 2 or 3 days. Oh my! Come to think of it, August is just around the corner - time flies!
Mangoes are fruits that are best enjoyed when ripened a bit after harvesting. I was told to look for spots appearing on the skin, a shiny appearance, and a delightful aroma - that's when they are ready to eat.
But, determining the right moment for ripeness is quite challenging.
When spots appear, I sometimes worry that the mango might be spoiled. Other times, I try to further ripen them, only to end up ruining the mangoes. It seems that enjoying mangoes requires some experience!
Though it's a bit tricky, there's nothing quite like savoring a perfectly ripe and juicy mango. It's definitely worth the effort and the occasional trial and error!
